Running On Empty

I turned forty eight yesterday.

I took the day off from training. /1

However, that has nothing to do with this Blog post.

And, today was different.

It rained most of the day.  Then, around 6:45pm it stopped, and there was a golden tint around some angry looking clouds.  The air was fresh with a cool snap – and, just a hint of a breeze that brought that enchanting wild freshness that fills your lungs with oxygen, strength and great promise.

I pulled on an old pair of Lacrosse shorts, and tied on some ultra light Nikes.

I did not bother to stretch.  My heart was aching, and the road called to me.

I took off into the waning light and I knew it was going to be a great run.  My hips were loose; I leaned forward; and, I broke into a sweat.  My pace was quickening before I even left our street.

I figured five hard miles.  And, I was gonna go for it.

I literally flew over the dirt road (that would be Brittle Road off Redd Road here in Alpharetta). It felt like my feet barely touched the ground, and I heard (and felt) “5:05, 5:05, 5:05” thumping in my head.

You should know (even if you don’t care) that I run with rage because I hold a terrible secret (call it a burden) in my heart that threatens to burst and shred it.  But, that rage – bordering on despair – also fuels me, and numbs pain I endure daily, that would stagger most men.

Tomorrow I will run again – and, likely ride as well.

Peace be to my Brothers and Sisters.  But, I want none for myself this day.

1/  Each week I am trying to cycle around 100 miles; run 50 miles; and, the equivalent of 500 push-ups, dips and pull-up curls at 72 hour intervals.

What’s All This About?

"What am I looking at?", you might wonder.

Lots of stuff.

Meanwhile, here, I discuss events, people and things in our world - and, my (hardly simplistic, albeit inarticulate) views around them.

You'll also learn things about, well, things, like people you need to know about, and information about companies you can't find anywhere else.

So, while I harangue the public in my not so gentle way, you will discover that I am fascinated by all things arcane, curious about those whom appear religious, love music, dabble in politics, loathe the media, value education, still think I am an athlete, and might offer a recipe.

All the while, striving mightily, and daily, to remain a prudent and optimistic gentleman - and, authentic.
