Losing My Religion
“Losing My Religion” is an expression from the southern region of the United States, and means losing one’s temper or civility, or “flying off the handle.” The song itself was described by singer and lyricist Michael Stipe as covering similar thematic ground to “Every Breath You Take” by The Police. Despite the title and the video, the general consensus appears to be that the song is entirely irreligious in its subject matter.
But, I disagree…
“O, life is bigger
It’s bigger than you and you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I’ve said too much, I set it up
That’s me in the corner
That’s me in the spotlight, losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don’t know if I can do it
Oh no I’ve said too much, I haven’t said enough”
