our carver motor yacht story: July 4th, High Adventure, and Great Memories

July4

I’ll begin this post asking you to ignore my errant thumb. the iPhone can be a very forgiving device, but not always for amateurs such as myself.

Haley Anne had a good number of her possie with us today. and, I got my first heads-up over the enigmatic “Evan”. that, of course, bares investigation with my radar up.

but, all things considered, this was a great weekend. the boat has offered us a great platform that promises both high adventure, and loads of bonding opportunities.

Emma Jo and I got to simply hang-out a lot and listen to music. we also found ourselves floating around the Waverunner in a cove near the marina all to ourselves. we jumped-off the watercraft and just chatted away an hour. later we read MacLife and Macworld side-by-side up in the bridge of Mojo under the fading skies. she asks great questions and demonstrates a keen understanding of how things work:

“Daddy… I think the ‘I-O-S-5′ is a relly good idea because it makes iPhones and Apples the same”.

there are moments I can only look at her (my little pumpkin) and smile.

but, for me, the highlight of the trip was the late evening with the terrific Kenwood sound system purring out all manner of classics driven by my iPod. again, on the bridge, with stars shining over our heads and the sounds of fireworks crackling in the distance, I had my back up against Joanne with her chin on my shoulder as I told her more stories about my Mom and Dad. for the record, Mom, in particular would have adored Jo (and, her granddaughters – Haley Anne is a dead-ringer for Mom). however, I spent a lot of time reminiscing more about Dad over this particular weekend (and, with the girls as well). Dad was, of course, a veteran – having served two tours in Southeast Asia while he forged a brilliant career in the Air Force.

thanks Dad (especially on days like this). but, I’ll note here, that Mom’s tomb inscrition reads:

“Wife to one, Mother to all”.

they were such a great team, and inspiration.

and, thank you, God, for my family and everything we can be grateful for.

I listened, and a lot, to: Yellow, by Coldplay and Beautiful World, by Colin Hay. and, Lynyed Skynyrd, for some reason. Emma Jo prefers Miley Cyrus, for some other reason, and was never shy about advancing the play selection button.

peace be to my Brothers and Sisters.

our carver motor yacht story: welcome home Mojo

July3

Captain Brian Thompson delivers “MoJo” to her new berth at Lake Lanier. we’ll keep the Marina a secret with concerns around paparazzi, and now “Chris”.

the video was taken with my iPhone 4.8. so, the image is far from perfect. although the story, and the moment with Emma Jo will be, and forever, priceless.

this weekend already has it’s share of adventures with great stories. I managed to get the boat out of our slip in good form (with only one bump) with rousing cheers from our new dock neighbors. returning her to the slip later was something of a different story. but, the good will continues.

more later. rest assured of that.

I’ll trust you, and all of you, to have a great 4th of July (this corrects my “Memorial Day” typo) weekend with your families. we certainly have a lot to be grateful for.

peace be to my Brothers and Sisters.

emma Jo Daddy and Phineas and Ferb

April17

Emma Jo and I find a lot of fun, and sometimes silly, things to do.

she turned nine just yesterday, and is becoming a very interesting little person.

one of our favorites is planning trips to New York City. I’m also coaching her in soccer again. she is part of Shockers Nation now, just like “sissy” (yesterday, their two teams combined for a massive scoring effort of fourteen goals with none against us). reading Harry Potter has gotten interesting, as well.

but, more often than not, after a hard days work and after school, we like to snuggle on the big sofa and watch Disney’s, Phineas and Ferb. it’s brilliant.

here’s the theme song, just for you.

01 Today Is Gonna Be A Great Day (Theme Song from Phineas and Ferb)

aspects of the show’s humor are aimed at adults, including its frequent pop-cultural references. co-creator Dan Povenmire, having previously written for Family Guy (which I don’t particularly care about), sought to create a show less raunchy, but with the same use of comic timing, employing humorous blank stares, expressionless faces and clever wording. Povenmire describes the show as a combination of Family Guy and SpongeBob SquarePants. Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, the other co-creator, said the show was not created just for kids, but simply did not exclude them as an audience. Marsh calls the characters “cool, edgy and clever without [...] being mean-spirited.” according to Povenmire, their animation director, Rob Hughes, agreed:

“in all the other shows every character is either stupid or a jerk, but there are no stupid characters or jerks in this one.”

I like that sort of messaging for my own family.

with your day good or bad, dance away with a wild jig. do it! Emma Jo and I certainly will.

“Hey Ferb, I know what we’re gonna do today.”

peace be to my Brothers and Sisters.

What’s All This About?

"What am I looking at"?, you might wonder.

Lot's of stuff.

Meanwhile, here, I discuss events, people and things in our world - and, my (hardly simplistic, albeit inarticulate) views around them.

You'll also learn things about, well, things, like people you need to know about, and information about companies you can't find anywhere else.

So, while I harangue the public in my not so gentle way, you will discover that I am fascinated by all things arcane, curious about those whom appear religious, love music, dabble in politics, loathe the media, value education, still think I am an athlete, and might offer a recipe.

All the while, striving mightily, and daily, to remain a prudent and optimistic gentleman - and, authentic.
